Are you still in business of replacing DC power jacks? The last time this page was updated is August 18th, 2008. So if you are browsing sometime close to that date they yes we are still in business. We get phone calls and emails every single day asking the same question, so we try to update the above date as often as we can.

Any rules we should be aware of? The first one is if you don't include your AC adapter with the laptop you don't get any warranty or support from us. Second one is badly packaged laptops will be sent back to the owner without being worked on. Make sure to wrap your laptop in at least 2 inches of bubble wrap, and put it in the box with plenty of cushion or fluffy stuff. Please note: free boxes provided by United States Postal Service provide inadequate protection for your laptop.

How do we submit a payment? We prefer it if you would enclose a check made out to Applicasoft.  We don't wait for checks to clear before sending a laptop back to you since it is considered a federal offense to send a bad check across the state lines, so we are not worried about bad checks. If the return address is different from the one on the check please write a separate note saying where to send it back to.   If you don't have a check book then you can pay by credit card through google checkout (no extra charge) or paypal (add $5 transaction fees that paypal charges).  If you are going to pay by credit card, please pay first by google check out or paypal, print out a copy of the receipt, and mail your laptop with the copy of the receipt to us.   If you would like to submit a payment after the job is done, it is fine by us, but be aware the process of calling back and forth will delay the shipping back to you.  Walk-in clients please note we will only only accept cash as a payment

How much is the shipping usually? We are centrally located near O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL It is usually $6.50-$13  to send a laptop to us by DHL, FedEx , or UPS ground.   If you ship your laptop to us we will ship the laptop back to you for free via DHL EXPRESS.  If you need a laptop ASAP you can prepay the overnight shipping back to you.   We use DHL because it is the most "gentle" handler of packages when compared to UPS ground or USPS priority.  Fedex ground is gentle too but a bit pricey.   It never takes more than 2 days to get your laptop back by DHL if you are in the midwest, east coast, or south.  Canada clients please be patient because USPS takes about 10 days to move the laptop across the border.

How long does it take? Average DC power jack replacement job lasts about 3-4 hours.  All work is done within 24 hours since we have all dc jacks in stock. Our guarantee that your laptop will be on it's way back to you within 24 hours. 

What time are you open? You can bring you laptop over at any reasonable time seven days a week (make sure to call in advance to schedule an appointment).  We work day and nights literally.  Monday is never a good day to bring your laptop over. 

Do you repair or you replace the power jack? We only replace power jacks, it is a more time consuming process than repairing but in a long run we don't have to deal with lots of warranty work.

I live in Chicago land can I drop my laptop off? Yes you can drop your laptop off at the above address 7 days a week, for maps look into location page. Please call in advance to make sure somebody is going to be there to meet you.  Generally you would be able to pick it up the next day, or if you make an appointment then you would be able to pick it up within 3 hours.  If you live further than 25 minutes away from us, please just mail your laptop to us.  We have clients from Wisconsin, Indiana, Rockford, Joliet and south Chicago who don't mind driving long distances but please if it will take more than 25 minutes to get to us just mail it in considering gas prices are so high. 

I live in Chicago land can you pick up my laptop and drop it off? Yes for an addition fee of $25 we can pick it up and drop it off, this fee is payable no matter what the outcome of the repair will be.  

Do you need the password to get into my system? No, we do not need any of your passwords.

Do I need to send an AC adapter? Yes, to test out your system we would prefer to have your AC DC power adapter, however if you are missing an AC DC adapter we still can work on it and test out your computer using our adapters.  In addition if your Power plug on your AC adapter is damaged or broken or shortens we can repair it at no extra charge. 

Are you liable for anything that will happen with my laptop? About 10% of all laptops that we receive have a motherboard issue rather than a DC jack problem, so even if we replace the jack the computer might not work.  So we are not liable for your computer except of course if it will get stolen or something like that

What if it is not a DC Jack that has a problem? Sometimes that happens too.  We are not going to charge you anything unless your laptop will be working fine when it leaves our place.  There are exceptions to that rule, if we receive your laptop and there is no obvious damage, cracks, wobbling etc... with the DC jack and you "just think" it is a DC jack then we are going to charge you the full amount regardless of the outcome (working or not working computer), we will take pictures of before and after just to prove the point that we did replace your jack.  Also, if you have tried to take your laptop apart or tried to fix a power plug yourself, or tried to remove a dc power jack yourself then again we are going to charge you the full amount regardless of the outcome. 

Why does it take 3-4 hours to replace the jack?  Calls like that come in all the time.  The hardest part and the most time consuming is not taking your laptop apart, nor it is putting it back together, neither it is soldering the new jack to the motherboard.  The time consuming part is de-soldering your old DC jack without damaging the motherboard it usually takes more than an hour to properly / safely remove the DC jack from the board. 

A note about bad checks.  Please be advised that writing out a bad check, or a check with NSF in the bank account, or using a closed account to write out a check is just a misdemeanor if you write it in your own state and usually handled by civil courts of your county.  As soon as a bad check crosses your state border it becomes a felony since it is a federal offense to send a bad check across the state lines. It will be investigated by FBI and pursued in the federal criminal court of Cook county state of Illinois, you will have to fly all the way over here to appear in court.  Since most of the laptops we receive are by USPS mail, sending a bad check along with the laptop becomes a mail fraud in addition to check fraud, so there are two federal felony counts rather than just one.  If you think you won't have sufficient funds in your checking account to pay for our service please submit a payment via paypal or credit card.

Warranty. We provide a lifetime warranty on all DC jacks that we replace. If you will ever break your jack again, we will replace it at no charge. We will only replace it once. You are covered by warranty for as long as you are using a factory AC power adapter, if you use any universal power adapters the warranty is void. That is the reason we ask everyone to send a factory power adapter with your laptop so that we could fix the plug on it if it is faulty, there is no charge for it. As of June 10th, 2007 we are the only business that offers a lifetime warranty on all DC jack replacements that we do.
